Bigger, better year on courts

IT was all systems go at the courts today.

It looks like we will have a healthy competition this year, with seven or eight teams in intermediate, four teams in the under-11/ 12s, and seven teams in the open division.

Netta is looking bigger too, so everyone can be excited about the links of london year to come.

Netta participants all seemed happy to hear that not only are their fees subsidised but O'Connors transport has sponsored them to each have a shirt, so there will be very little extra cost for this group (shorts and skirts perhaps).

I WOULD like to thank all the volunteers at the sign-on days. I think we have been able to get to talk to nearly everyone and let them know what to expect from their chosen sport this year.

If there are any men who would like to come and help mark courts next week, we should be ready for games on March 6.

We also need someone to bring a spanner so we can have all the netta goals at the correct height.

IT was really exciting today to see that work has started on our courts.

The council has put a cement buffer around them, and weather permitting the resurfacing should be complete before March 6, so games can be played on courts 9, 10, 11 and 12.

WE had another meeting about the action plan today and we think it is nearly ready. If anyone still wants to have a say on the direction of our association, please call or email me.

WE have decided on our meeting plan for the year.

We will meet on the third Thursday replica breitling watches of every month at 7pm at a venue to be confirmed.

The next meeting will be Thursday, March 18.

It is hoped that team managers will have a roster of parents so that every team is represented at each meeting.

Some of us will be at the courts again next week to get the teams finalised and draws happening.

FINALLY, we are having a few issues with our web page.

If there are any gurus out there who could help, please let me know.

BIGGER IS BETTER

If any monument symbolises the explosion in investment in dairying in the South Island, it's probably the world's biggest milk- powder drying tower that has appeared at Fonterra's Edendale site.

TIM CRONSHAW reports.

--------------------

Edendale, it's fair to say, is no major metropolis.

Surrounded by rolling hill country, the Southland village has the slim trappings of small- town New Zealand. Within its narrow confines are a country butcher, an engineering shop and a potato barn. Clip on charms

At the last census it mustered a population of 500-odd, with men outnumbering women. No longer does the train stop for passengers, with carriages confined to freight.

Its little primary school with website statement "where dreams begin" once educated Indian motorcycle speedster Burt Munro.

Today a shade cloth shields the next generation of dreamers from UV rays poking out from the south's infamously dour cloudscape.

But it would be wrong to portray Edendale as a rural junction in decline.

Many of the town's youngsters will probably look no further than across the road for their chosen career path.

And why wouldn't they, when dairy giant Fonterra has put the finishing touches to the world's largest dryer of milk powder at the Edendale milk factory.

The factory is the biggest employer in the district and its latest $212 million asset, ED4, towers above the township.

Within its gleaming paintwork of white and grey candy stripes with a green cap on top is a mass of stainless steel and pressure hoses that will churn out 27 tonnes of milk powder an hour at full pace.

To put that into perspective, 150,000 cows are needed to supply milk for the dryer and about eight tankers full of milk must unload every hour to keep it operational. The dryer alone has added 100 employees to a 500-strong wages roll at the site.

This addition, swelling the powder armoury to four dryers, will make the dairy factory the biggest raw-milk processing plant in the world.

Until the recession, sheep farms were falling over like skittles in the deep south to be replaced by more profitable black-and- white cows. Throughout the South Island, or at least south of Culverden, milk production has grown 6 per cent to 7 per cent, while northern flows have stayed constant or, in drought, declined.

Hence Fonterra spared no expense when it came to fitting the latest technology to the small rural outpost in its largest investment to date outside of shopping trips overseas.

More investment is promised to follow, with another plant in the pipeline, possibly in Canterbury.

Fonterra is big business. New Zealand's largest multinational company had a $16 billion-plus turnover last season and Edendale, a municipal minnow, is a hefty cog in its milk-processing arsenal.

At ED4's launch a week ago, the nation's top politicians rubbed shoulders with Fonterra management as farmers came in their droves to get a close look. Fonterra suits spoke of confidence in their replica breitling watches investment and of Fonterra needing to be a global champion.

Milk was helping to drive the national economy, they told the converted.

The farmers munc

Find the Goldmine within Your Business

By:Joy Gendusa

Doing a current customer breakdown can help you find the goldmine within your business by determining who you should be targeting in your marketing efforts in the future There is a goldmine right there and you may or may not see it鈥t's your customer base! But is it all of them? No - definitely not Then what the heck am I talking about?

You probably already have some great customers, probably not as many as you would like though So how do you go about finding more of the kind of customers that make opening your doors worthwhile every day? The first step is to find out everything you can about the customers that you do have Here's how to start:

1 Get Accurate Sales Numbers

How do you determine what a "good customer" is? More than likely it is a loyal customer who keeps coming back to spend money with your business This is why the first step you take should be to determine how many sales each customer has and what total income each customer has provided you

2 Decide What You Consider "Good"

Is your product or service a one shot deal? Or can your customers come back again and again? If they can come back, you'll want to find out their average order or purchase size in a dollar amount and also how many times they've purchased You'll see that they'll fall into categories Maybe 10% are big spenders but 30% purchase consistently RGB flexible led strips. Obviously this will vary depending on what type of business you have If you sell a product or service where it is unlikely your customer will need you again, figure out what range of purchase size makes up most of your income It really varies from business to business For instance, if you're a Realtor you may sell many more homes between 100 and 200 thousand, but most of your actual income came from one giant purchase Fake Designer Handbags. Maybe a 2 million dollar home You don't want to ignore your bread and butter In this case, I would recommend marketing to the "bread and butter" public So you see, you really need to evaluate your industry

3 Once you've determined which are the best customers (the kind you'd like all the others to emulate) and have gotten all information concerning their purchasing habits with you:

Find out how they found you, where they live, what they do for a living and even what their level of income is (if it can be tactfully worked into the conversation) It's good to get this information when the customers are making their purchase because they will be more likely to give it to you If you keep customer phone numbers you could even do a short survey by phone to find out most of this info

4 Look for Patterns

When you gather all of the information you may notice that 35% of your best customers are doctors, or 50% of them come from one area of the city Whatever the pattern is that you notice, take advantage of it Do specific mailings to a list that fits the same description as your best customers and you will attract more of them A list company can find you a list that best fits so that you are mailing to those companies or individuals that are most likely to purchase

Follow these steps and you will be able to increase you Return On Investment (ROI) from all of your marketing programs And remember, Return On Investment is how much income you are generating from the leads you get in from your direct mail marketing campaign

Marketing your business will help it grow, marketing your business to the right people can get your business booming So, tap into your goldmine!
