N. Korea to appoint lower-leve

SEOUL, Feb. 16 Kyodo

North Korea will soon replace its ambassador to China with a lower-ranking official, a Seoul daily reported Tuesday.

In a report from Beijing, the JoongAng Daily quoted Clip on hair extensions sources as saying Choe Jin Su, who has served as ambassador in Beijing for the last 10 years, will be replaced by Choe Byong Ryol, currently director of the Foreign Ministry's Consular Department.

''We could see the new head of mission by late this month or early next month,'' one of the sources said.

Choe Jin Su, who became the ambassador in 2000, is the vice ministerial-level diplomat who had been deputy chief of the International Department of the ruling Workers' Party of Korea.

The report also said Pak Myong Ho, a deputy director in the Chinese Affairs Department of the Foreign Ministry, will become the embassy's deputy chief, replacing Kim Song Gi, who has held that position since 2004.

The newspaper's sources said it is highly unusual for North

Little is known about the career of Choe Byong Ryol. He has spent most of his time at the Foreign Ministry, but it is not clear if he has been with the Workers' Party of Korea or overseas, the daily said.
