SARAH IVISON takes a peek into two women's make-up bags to find out where all that money goes.

"MAKE-UP is my only extravagance," says Anna Addison, 28, from Middlesbrough.

The owner of Anna Addison Associates spends pounds 3,368 a year on beauty products and treatments. "I have different handbags with different face powders and lip glosses inside," says Anna.

"I have fake tan treatments every two weeks because I'm so pale. I just have it dark enough to give me a bit of colour. I always feel about half a stone lighter after I've had it done as well.

"I have always been conscious about my skin and using the better products makes it look a lot better. I have always had my hair coloured and straightened so I have to get it led down lights cut often to keep it in good condition."

Anna says that wearing make-up makes her feel more confident.

The survey found that women are willing to give up nights
embroidered patches out (40pc), food (37pc), a car (10pc), a holiday (8pc) or even a date with Brad Pitt (37pc) to buy their favourite make-up products.

Anna laughs and says: "When I was a student I would get cheaper types of food so I could buy make-up instead. Even now if I had to choose between popping into Marks and Spencer for something nice for tea or Debenhams for a new lip gloss, I'd pick the lip gloss every time!"
